The Veteran Behind the Mission
Career & Background
I'm James Henderson — a Texas-based Laravel, PHP, .NET & AI Developer, U.S. Army veteran, and computer scientist with 25+ years of experience building secure, scalable software systems. I hold a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston, and the degree still shapes how I work: systems thinking before frameworks, written specifications before code, and verification before delivery. After serving in uniform, I transitioned to the private sector where I've led engineering teams, architected enterprise platforms, and advised Fortune 500 executives on technology strategy.
Before transitioning into software and AI development, I served in the U.S. Army from 1994–1997 as a 13B Field Artillery crew member, with assignments at Fort Sill, Fort Bliss, and Fort Carson. That experience helped shape a disciplined, systems-oriented approach to engineering, problem solving, execution, and leadership.
Today my practice centers on Laravel, PHP, and AI development — building custom business software, AI automations, SaaS platforms, backend systems, and API integrations for growing companies. My secondary practice helps organizations adopt AI responsibly — designing LLM systems, advising leadership, and teaching teams how to use AI as a force multiplier rather than a replacement.
If you are here for the hands-on work behind the strategy, my engineering services cover Laravel 13 and Livewire 4 applications, C# .NET 10 and MAUI builds, PHP 8.4 modernization, and security review for AI-augmented systems.
One discipline inside that practice carries a stance worth reading on its own — the customer service AI engagement.
Teaching Philosophy
AI Should Empower People, Not Replace Them
This isn't just a tagline—it's a principle informed by military leadership. In the Army, I learned that the best outcomes come from augmenting human judgment with better tools and information. That principle is directly applicable to enterprise AI.
I focus on workflows that amplify experts, eliminate drudgery, improve decision quality, and maintain transparency so teams understand how AI is helping them.
Core Focus Areas
- ▸ LLM Architecture: RAG systems, tool use, agentic workflows
- ▸ Internal Copilots: Thought leadership tools, knowledge management systems
- ▸ AI Governance: Risk reduction, compliance, ethical frameworks
- ▸ Executive Enablement: Leadership education, workforce upskilling

Why Work With Me
I don't sell hype. I care about outcomes: revenue, efficiency, trust, and team empowerment. Your success is my success.
I push back on AI applications that replace humans unnecessarily or create risk. Responsible innovation is non-negotiable.
This isn't theoretical. I've shipped production systems, led teams through chaos, and navigated enterprise complexity.
I partner with your existing team. I teach, I don't replace. Your people become stronger at AI because of the work I do alongside them.
What kind of engagements do you take?
AI strategy consulting and LLM systems design as the primary practice. Engineering services (Laravel, .NET/MAUI, PHP, application security, Technical SEO, AI SEO) as a secondary offering. Single principal — no offshore team, no resold work.
How do you typically scope an engagement?
One to three week written discovery first — interviews, data review, architecture sketch, and a phased plan with milestones. Implementation runs in two-week sprints with a working demo at the end of each. Handover includes the running system, the test suite, the deployment runbook, and a 30-day post-launch support window.
Do you work with regulated industries?
Yes — financial services, healthcare-adjacent, and government-adjacent work. AI features in regulated environments need threat modeling before the demo. I bring the discipline of a 25-year computer science background and a military operations posture: written specifications, evidence over assertions, and verification before delivery.
How are you different from a larger AI consultancy?
One principal across advise, build, and verify — no junior team in the meeting after the senior closes the contract. The tradeoff is capacity: I take a small number of concurrent engagements so each one gets senior attention end to end.
What is your stance on AI replacing jobs?
AI Should Empower People, Not Replace Them — the founding principle of this practice. I push back on AI applications that displace humans unnecessarily or create downstream risk the client has not priced in. The work is augmentation and force-multiplication, not headcount-reduction storytelling.
